Philips HMZL34/III OKM similar to the
Dutch Vliegtuig Ontvanger 34
The Dutch receiver intended to be used in aircrafts seems later
to have been used mainly by Kriegsmarine
The easiest way to distinguish between VO34
and HMZL34 is to check
which BFO valve
is used. The original VO34 has EH2, while the German version has
EBC3, either receiver have
EBC3 as Local oscillator, but here is a chance for an easy
conversion to SSB product detector.
It seems the reason for this change is to avoid using a dry diode
for some bias voltage.
